They can be bought cheaper from USA, but you will have to wait several weeks to get one.Transcend’s SSD720 is a next generation SATA III 6Gb/s solid state drive (SSD) that doubles the maximum data transfer rate of the previous Serial ATA II 3Gb/s interface. ![]() The 6 cm 2260 M.2 drives are very rare and hard to find in the UK, so it was great to be able to get a pair with next day delivery. The SSD is very nicely packaged in a retail box, well protected. I would have liked a faster Write speed, but this is satisfactory. The Read speed is the highest that I have ever seen in any of my RAID0 configurations (normally about 100 MBs slower), and the Write speed is reasonably good. I just ran CrystalDiskMark, and I am getting 1049 MBs Read, and 304 MBs Write. The factory restore was very quick, and was clever enough to set up the two drives in RAID0 (as it was originally done at the factory). ![]() Just fitted them, and did a factory restore of Windows 8.1. One of the SSDs had been removed, and as the remaining one had seen quite heavy usage, I decided to buy two Transcend 2260 (very important to get the 6 cm long 2260 version to fit the UX301LA) 128 GB SSDs, from Amazon. I recently bought a second hand ASUS ZenBook UX301LA, which originally came with 2 128 GB SanDisk M.2 SSDs. But if you already own this card, and it's causing crashes, do try the fix above. So if you have a Chromebook with a broken SSD, probably best not to choose this particular card. But I hope it'll get me at least another year or so out of the Chromebook. Transcend ssd scope windows xp install#The downside is, each time I install an update to the Chrome OS, I think I'll need to re-do this fix. It may take a while to get your head round the instructions, especially if, like me, you know very little about Linux, but when you follow the steps, it does solve the problem). The Chromebook works perfectly, and doesn't overheat. I've had no crashing for days now, ever since I used this fix. Well, I tested it, and it actually works. *Not* method 1, incidentally, which caused immediate overheating in my machine, but method 2, which the author says is untested. Because I really wanted to share the fact that IF you've already bought this card, and your Chromebook or laptop is now crashing, then these instructions actually do resolve the issue: Rather than send it back (especially since I'd binned the packaging, believing the project to have been a success) I decided to investigate fixes, and that's partly why I'm writing this review. It turns out there's some compatibility issue with these specific Transcend cards and the low power mode the chromebook sometimes goes into. And then I noticed the machine crashing every hour or two. It was quite an adventure installing it, but there was a really helpful guide on YouTube, and since I had nothing to lose, I forged ahead, dismantled most of the Chromebook, and installed the new Transcend card.Īnd it worked! For a while. I purchased this after the SSD failed in my HP Chromebook 14 (after around 18 months of use). Not used the SSD extensively yet but so far it has met the expectation (it's noticeably quicker, especially during boot and shutdown, than the stock Samsung which has similar specs) and given there are not many 2240 form factor M.2 SS's available, this tiny little rocket is well worth considering. The read speeds are not far off the advertised 560 MB/s but the write speeds are bang on the money and almost meet the advertised 160 MB/s. Transcend ssd scope windows xp windows 7#SSD Scope returned the following benchmarks and these are with a Windows 7 64-bit professional build installed on the Transcend: Then I simply changed the boot order to start with the M.2 slot and it worked first time. All partitions of the Samsung, including the all-important Lenovo recovery / installation drive, were cloned across. I used SSD Scope to clone my existing Samsung stock SSD to the 128GB Transcend M.2 which worked perfectly. Transcend ssd scope windows xp download#As a bonus, you don't need to register to download it and it doesn't require any additional heavyweight Java libraries or. Transcend ssd scope windows xp software#Transcend provides it's own SSD Scope software (download from their website) which is fairly comprehensive and will also clone your existing drive as well as carry out maintenance and benchmarks. I've got this installed in a Lenovo X250 as a boot drive alongside another SSD which is the usual 2.5" form factor. Great SSD for upgrading laptops with an M.2 slot. ![]()
